■ Birth of the CHIRON HYBRID |
 |
 |
The CHIRON, an opto-mechanical style planetarium projector, constitutes part of the GOTO HYBRID
PLANETARIUM®, truly the next-generation of planetarium. CHIRON excels in its ability to reproduce
starlit skies.
Stars, deep sky objects, and star clusters that make up the Milky Way are reproduced
to the smallest details. The CHIRON projects more than ten million star and "micro-star" images
at one time. It is GOTO's newest and most technologically advanced product ever.

■ Reproducing Beautiful Starlit Skies with Ten Million Stars |
 |
|
This is the world's first projector that can display more than ten million stars simultaneously.
Skies are reproduced on the screen, based on the latest observational databases. Its small body,
measuring 70cm (28 inches) in diameter, is packed with cutting-edge technology. It not only displays
countless stars but also reproduces in fine detail all celestial bodies, galaxies and star clusters as
listed in the Messier catalog, and many more. Visitors will feel as if they were looking through
binoculars. All stars sparkle and twinkle exactly like real ones. And when synchronized with GOTO's
VIRTUARIUM fulldome video system under a single manual and automated control system,
it's the most versatile and sophisticated planetarium system ever.

| ■ Origins of Chiron |
 |
|
 |
| * “CHIRON”and“the chalone” are the registered trade marks of GOTO INC. |
|
(Etymology)CHIRON, the son of CHRONOS, was the wise half-man half-horse creature of the Centaur tribe
in Greek mythology. As an exception to the other wild and violent Centaurs, Chiron studied music,
medicine and prophesy from the god Apollo, and hunting skills under the god Artemis.
Despite being a hybrid (half-man half-horse), Chiron learned much from the gods
and passed his knowledge on to heroes in mythology. GOTO names this new product CHIRON
with a wish that your visitors will also learn a lot while at your planetarium.
It is pronounced “Kee-ron” in Latin, or “Kai-ron” in American English.

■ Sudekum Planetarium, Adventure Science Center |
 |
 |
June of 2008 marked the opening of the new Sudekum Planetarium at
the Adventure Science Center in Nashville, Tennessee, USA. An
earlier planetarium was totally replaced with a larger 63 foot (19.2 meter)
tilted dome. Inside, America's first CHIRON HYBRID Planetarium system uses synchronized,
state-of-the-art opto-mechanical and fulldome video to present shows to public and
education audiences. The first 5 months attendance with the new
system exceeded the planetarium's previous best year, and attendance continues to grow! |
