Large Telescopes Help Science Education and Research

■ 20cm/25cm Coude with CATS-III
The Coude telescope guides light through its polar axis with two mirrors. It can observe any star without adjusting the observer's eye position. The telescope does not need a ladder or footstool. Even a wheelchair user can operate it with comfort. A sliding roof or angled dome could provide easy access to the observatory without an elevator or ladder. It enables the set-up of a barrier-free observatory. You can operate the telescope remotely from school or home over the Internet.
■ 45cm Cassegrain Equatorial Telescope
This telescope is made of a Cassegrain design with lenses polished by GOTO to extremely high accuracy. The platform consists of an improved German equatorial mount that can save room for the observer. High-speed rotation is achieved with the use of a high-precision worm gear instead of a clamp. The equatorial telescope is designed to satisfy the needs of researchers. It can run in combination with an astronomical dome, monitor the weather, and control a cooled CCD. The telescope is serving many researchers throughout the world.
■ Telescope with diameters exceeding 60cm
GOTO makes and installs large reflective telescopes with lenses larger than 60cm in diameter by special order and arrangement. GOTO optical designers and telescope engineers enjoy a challenge! Feel free to call us about your plan.
Track Record

■ Nihonmatsu City Adatara Elementary School
An astronomical observatory blends with a new school building. The dome is made of wood in harmony with the building that looks like a mountain lodge. The telescope serves not only class lessons but also lifetime education in the community.
■ Chile University
Chile is located on the other side of the Earth as seen from Japan. It has a 45cm telescope made by GOTO. Like a seed sprouting on foreign soil after sailing over the ocean, the telescope is satisfying the desire of South American students to explore the unknown. It marks the first step of astronomical research in the university.
