CHIRON II HYBRID into Tama Rokuto Science CenterGiant Planetarium Uses Newest Star Projector, CHIRON II

Tamarokuto Science Center, which is located in a suburb outside Tokyo, Japan opened in1993. For many years, its huge 27.5 meter dome held all world records for size. Originally, only the GOTO HELIOS could handle that size dome, and it served Tamarokuto well for 19 years. But when it came time to renovate the projection equipment, the CHIRON II HYBRID was chosen. Since the CHIRON II can beautifully fill 15-30 meter domes, it was a natural choice. It can show a full 140,000,000 stars, down to magnitude 18 to create a sky that looks better and better the closer you get to the dome, or when using binoculars to observe the planetarium sky. The use of micro-star technology allows the GOTO CHIRON II to show 337 bright nebulae, planetary nebulae, star clusters, galaxies including all Messier objects and 2,140 dark nebulae. The light source of the CHIRON II is LED lamps which are super-long life, highly energy efficient and superior in color temperature for the highest fidelity stars.
It should be noted that CHIRON II is paired with not two, but four ultra-high resolution JVC 4K video projectors for bright fulldome video scenes with more than 13 million pixels of colorful, animated imagery in this huge dome. These fulldome video images are synchronized to move precisely with the motions of the CHIRON II starball, sun, moon, and planets, for the ultimate planetarium experience.
