CHIRON III Hybrid brought an impressive starry sky to Toyama Science Museum

Toyama Science Museum opened in 1979 as Toyama City Science and Culture Center equipped with GOTO GMII-AT planetarium projector in 18m horizontal dome. In 1994 it was upgraded to GOTO GSS-HELIOS planetarium projector and in 2007 their name was changed to Toyama Science Museum. But in 2009 GSS-HELIOS was removed and only digital planetarium was installed.

For this renewal, it was decided to install both an opto-mechanical planetarium and a digital planetarium based on the concept of “an introductory space to science that attracts people by impressive starry sky and dynamic images”. Using the cutting-edge “CHIRON III Hybrid”, it has been reborn into a place where a realistic and beautiful starry sky and dynamic digital images spread.

Mr. Tadashi Hayashi, a curator of Toyama Science Museum, said,
"CHIRON III has made it possible to reproduce the beautiful starry sky, which was difficult with only digital planetarium. I hope many people will come to see it and deepen their interest in space. The dome theater is a place where you can enjoy immersive images with the people around you. Since the museum has curators in various fields such as animals, plants, and insects, it is not limited to astronomy. I would like to use it as a place to provide various science topics.”

In addition to new CHIRON III Hybrid, all seats have been renewed and pair seats for various needs have been newly installed. In front of the entrance, there is a large stage making it possible to use it as a multipurpose space or as a lying space. Antibacterial and antiviral coating infection measures and barrier -free were taken. Hearing loop area has been installed, and there is also a space for viewing in a wheelchair.
